PREGÀRIA DEL PAPA FRANCESC EN TEMPS D’EPIDÈMIA

“Al capvespre” (Mc 4,35). Així comença l’Evangeli que hem escoltat. Des de fa algunes setmanes sembla que tot s’ha enfosquit. Denses tenebres han cobert les nostres places, carrers i ciutats; s’han anat apoderant de les nostres vides omplint tot d’un silenci que ensordeix i un buit desolador que paralitza tot al seu pas: es batega en l’aire, se sent en els gestos, ho diuen les mirades. Ens trobem espantats i perduts. Com els deixebles de l’Evangeli, ens ha sorprès una tempesta inesperada i furiosa. Ens hem adonat que estàvem en la mateixa barca, tots fràgils i desorientats; però, al mateix temps, importants i necessaris, tots cridats a remar junts, tots necessitats de confortar-nos mútuament. En aquesta barca, hi som tots. Com aquells deixebles, que parlen amb una única veu i amb angoixa diuen: “Ens enfonsem” (cf. v. 38), també nosaltres hem descobert que no podem seguir cadascun pel nostre compte, sinó només junts.

És fàcil identificar-nos amb aquesta història. Allò que és difícil és entendre l’actitud de Jesús. Mentre els deixebles, lògicament, estaven alarmats i desesperats, Ell romania en popa, a la part de la barca que primer s’enfonsa. I, què fa? Tot i l’enrenou i el bullici, dormia tranquil, confiat en el Pare -és l’única vegada en l’Evangeli que Jesús apareix dormint-. Després que el despertessin i que calmés el vent i les aigües, es va dirigir als deixebles amb un to de retret: “Per què teniu por? Encara no teniu fe?” (v. 40).

Intentem entendre-ho. En què consisteix la manca de fe dels deixebles que es contraposa a la confiança de Jesús? Ells no havien deixat de creure en Ell; de fet, el van invocar. Però vegem com l’invoquen: “Mestre, no et fa res que ens enfonsem?” (v. 38). No et fa res: van pensar que Jesús es desinteressava d’ells, que no els prestava atenció. Entre nosaltres, en les nostres famílies, el que fa més mal és quan sentim dir: “És que no t’importo?”. És una frase que fereix i desferma tempestes al cor. També haurà sacsejat Jesús, perquè a Ell li importem més que a ningú. De fet, un cop invocat, salva els seus deixebles desconfiats.

La tempesta desemmascara la nostra vulnerabilitat i deixa al descobert aquestes falses i supèrflues seguretats amb les quals havíem construït les nostres agendes, els nostres projectes, rutines i prioritats. Ens mostra com havíem deixat adormit i abandonat allò que alimenta, sosté i dóna força a la nostra vida i la nostra comunitat. La tempesta posa al descobert tots els intents d’encaixonar i oblidar el que ha nodrit l’ànima dels nostres pobles; totes aquelles temptatives d’anestesiar amb aparents rutines “salvadores”, incapaços d’apel·lar a les nostres arrels i evocar la memòria dels nostres avis, privant-nos així de la immunitat necessària per fer front a l’adversitat.

Amb la tempesta, ha caigut el maquillatge d’aquests estereotips amb què disfressàvem els nostres egos sempre pretensiosos de voler aparentar; i ha deixat al descobert, una vegada més, aquella (beneïda) pertinença comuna de la qual no podem ni volem evadir-nos; aquella pertinença de germans.

“Per què teniu por? Encara no teniu fe?”. Senyor, aquesta tarda la vostra Paraula ens interpel·la i es dirigeix a tots. En el nostre món, que Tu estimes més que nosaltres, hem avançat ràpidament, sentint-nos forts i capaços de tot. Cobdiciosos de guanys, ens hem deixat absorbir per allò material i trastornar per la pressa. No ens hem aturat davant les teves crides, no ens hem despertat davant guerres i injustícies del món, no hem escoltat el crit dels pobres i del nostre planeta greument malalt. Hem continuat impertorbables, pensant a mantenir-nos sempre sans en un món malalt. Ara, mentre estem en mars agitats, et supliquem: “Desperta, Senyor”.

“Per què teniu por? Encara no teniu fe?”. Senyor, ens dirigeixes una crida, una crida a la fe. Que no és tant creure que Tu existeixes, sinó anar cap a tu i confiar en tu. En aquesta Quaresma ressona la teva crida urgent: “Convertiu-vos”, “torneu a mi de tot cor” (Jl 2,12). Ens crides a prendre aquest temps de prova com un temps d’elecció. No és el moment de la teva opinió, sinó del nostre judici: el temps per triar entre el que compta veritablement i el que passa, per separar el que és necessari del que no ho és. És el temps de restablir el rumb de la vida cap a tu, Senyor, i cap als altres. I podem mirar tants companys de viatge que són exemplars, que, davant la por, han reaccionat donant la pròpia vida. És la força operant de l’Esperit vessada i plasmada en valents i generoses entregues. És la vida de l’Esperit capaç de rescatar, valorar i mostrar com les nostres vides estan teixides i sostingudes per persones comunes -correntment oblidades- que no apareixen en portades de diaris i de revistes, ni en les grans passarel·les de l’últim xou però, sense cap mena de dubtes, estan escrivint avui els esdeveniments decisius de la nostra història: metges, infermers i infermeres, encarregats de reposar els productes en els supermercats, netejadores, cuidadores, transportistes, forces de seguretat, voluntaris, sacerdots, religioses i tants i tants altres que han comprès que ningú no se salva sol. Davant el sofriment, on es mesura el veritable desenvolupament dels nostres pobles, descobrim i experimentem la pregària sacerdotal de Jesús: “Que tots siguin u” (Jn 17,21). Quanta gent cada dia demostra paciència i infon esperança, cuidant-se de no sembrar pànic sinó coresponsabilitat. Quants pares, mares, avis i àvies, docents mostren als nostres nens, amb gestos petits i quotidians, com enfrontar i transitar una crisi readaptant rutines, aixecant mirades i impulsant l’oració. Quantes persones resen, ofereixen i intercedeixen pel bé de tots. L’oració i el servei silenciós són les nostres armes vencedores.

“Per què teniu por? Encara no teniu fe?”. El començament de la fe és saber que necessitem la salvació. No som autosuficients; sols, ens enfonsem. Necessitem el Senyor com els antics mariners les estrelles. Convidem Jesús a la barca de la nostra vida. Donem-li els nostres temors, perquè els venci. Com els deixebles, experimentarem que, amb Ell a bord, no naufraga. Perquè aquesta és la força de Déu: convertir en una cosa bona tot el que ens passa, fins i tot les coses dolentes. Ell porta serenitat en les nostres tempestes, perquè amb Déu la vida mai no mor.

El Senyor ens interpel·la i, enmig de la nostra tempesta, ens convida a despertar i a activar aquesta solidaritat i esperança capaç de donar solidesa, contenció i sentit a aquestes hores on tot sembla naufragar. El Senyor es desperta per despertar i revifar la nostra fe pasqual. Tenim una àncora: en la seva Creu hem estat salvats. Tenim un timó: en la seva Creu hem estat rescatats. Tenim una esperança: en la seva Creu hem estat guarits i abraçats perquè ningú ni res ens separi del seu amor redemptor. Enmig de l’aïllament on estem patint la falta dels afectes i de les trobades, experimentant la manca de tantes coses, escoltem un cop més l’anunci que ens salva: ha ressuscitat i viu al nostre costat. El Senyor ens interpel·la des de la seva creu a retrobar la vida que ens espera, a mirar aquells que ens reclamen, a potenciar, reconèixer i incentivar la gràcia que ens habita. No apaguem la flama fumejant (cf. Is 42,3), que mai no emmalalteix, i deixem que revifi l’esperança.

Abraçar la seva creu és animar-se a abraçar totes les contrarietats del temps present, abandonant per un instant el nostre afany d’omnipotència i possessió per donar-li espai a la creativitat que només l’Esperit és capaç de suscitar. És animar-se a motivar espais on tothom pugui sentir-se convocats i permetre noves formes d’hospitalitat, de fraternitat i de solidaritat. En la seva creu hem estat salvats per allotjar l’esperança i deixar que sigui ella qui enforteixi i sostingui totes les mesures i camins possibles que ens ajudin a cuidar-nos i a tenir cura. Abraçar el Senyor per abraçar l’esperança. Aquesta és la força de la fe, que allibera de la por i dóna esperança.

“Per què teniu por? Encara no teniu fe?”. Estimats germans i germanes: Des d’aquest lloc, que narra la fe pètria de Pere, aquest vespre m’agradaria confiar-vos tots al Senyor, a través de la intercessió de la Verge, salut del seu poble, estrella del mar tempestuós. Des d’aquesta columnata que abraça Roma i el món, vindrà damunt vostre, com una abraçada consoladora, la benedicció de Déu. Senyor, beneeix el món, dóna salut als cossos i consola els cors. Ens demanes que no sentim por. Però la nostra fe és feble i tenim por. Per tu, Senyor, no ens abandonis a mercè de la tempesta. Repeteixes de nou: “No tingueu por” (Mt 28,5). I nosaltres, juntament amb Pere, “descarreguem en tu tot el nostre aclaparament, perquè Tu tens cura de nosaltres” (cf. 1Pe 5,7).
